WHAT MAKES A GOOD PRESENTER?

Don’t be generic!  Too many presenters try and appeal to everyone, whereas you actually need to find out your USP.

Find your own style of presenting – from your scripts, to how you stand etc.  There are actually no one-size-fits-all rules to how to be a good presenter – so work on your own brand.  But make sure you brand yourself according to the area of work you want to work in…

All the genres of TV are very different to each other, and it’s very rare for a presenter to work across them all.

The main genres are:

Entertainment

Factual Entertainment

Features

News

All of our training is specific to the genre of work we think you are best suited to.  So it pays to be different and it also pays to know where you’d fit in!

So if you want to find out where we think you’re best suited to come and work with us.  Take a look around the site www.presenterstudio.comat our training programmes or email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

THE PRESENTER STUDIO - 5 STAR REVIEWS

We love hearing from our clients and Rachael Taylor who came on the Fast Track programme has written a really detailed review. So check this out:

"I thoroughly enjoyed my training at The Presenter Studio. Gareth was so friendly warm and welcoming, he made me feel at ease yet he equally knew when to challenge me in order to bring out the best in myself. He was always very honest and constructive, he is incredibly knowledgeable and experienced and I also think he’s far too modest!

I had been filmed on and off for years through my own global online design school and there had also been a few TV opportunities but if I’m being totally honest I’m a designer who accidentally ended up being booked for media jobs and whilst I prefer to work off the cuff at times I often felt out of my depth and a little overwhelmed. Not only did I get to improve my presenting skills and learn other styles such as Vox Pops, Auto Cue and scriot reading I was also taught about branding, production and many other things within the industry.

I came away buzzing as I felt Gareth had really help me turn a corner with my own personal and professional development.

Shortly after I filmed a number of how-to demonstrations and a colleague took me to one side to compliment my presentation and she had seen a real difference in me. I was really taken aback by her comments it was great to see my training hadn’t gone unnoticed.

Since my training I’ve had two television shows contact me and whilst it’s still early days. I was able to deal with the requests and filming with a lot more ease and confidence.

Another recent booking was to present and be interviewed for a global art company’s campaign both the film crew and art company reached out to me afterwards and gave such amazing feedback on my professionalism, friendly manner and presenting and I know this is all down to Gareth’s guidance, I even hear his voice in my head at times (and in his accent)! It’s always just before I start filming reminding me to stay true to myself, not feel rushed when speaking, have fun, keep my energy levels up and trust in my ability.

I can’t rate these guys enough, they are an absolute dream."

AMY DOWDEN WORKS WITH THE PRESENTER STUDIO

We had the wonderful pleasure of working with Amy Dowden from Strictly Come Dancing. Amy came to us on the 1 to 1 training programme, hoping to get some good tips for all the great presenting jobs she is starting to get. We had a great day working in both the Features and Entertainment areas. Amy and her agent had some lovely things they also said about their time with us:

Amy:  “I had a fabulous time working with Gareth and the team. It really helped my confidence in front of the camera and the direction, guidance and feedback I received generated instant results. My improvement over the course of just one day was amazing – I can’t recommend Presenter Studio highly enough!”

Her agent:  “The nature of the television industry today means that there is little time for presenter development, people need instant results so it is hard to learn on the job. The service Presenter Studio provides is one of the best ways someone can get the training and confidence they need. What I find most impressive is their ability to hone in on what makes a presenter unique and develop that aspect of their personality in front of the camera.”

Amy’s career is going to grow and grow. She was a joy to work with and we can see her going on to get some really fantastic work.

FRANCESCA MARTINEZ ON QUESTION TIME

Did you watch Francesca Martinez on Question Time?

Her impassioned answer to Fiona Bruce’s question has gone viral.  So why did her answer engage and touch so many of us?  The reason is it was ‘personal’.  So many debates and speeches lack personal content – we all know people buy people, so where is there so much corporate jargon?

Francesca’s personal story brings a problem to life.  All of a sudden what she has to say can’t be ignored as we can see and hear from someone who is part of the problem, and this makes it all the more real.  But it wasn’t just what Francesca said on the BBC’s Question Time that connected with people, it was how she said it.  She spoke from the heart.  Her answer was passionate, and passion goes a long way.  If you are passionate about something it’s hard for the viewer not to be too.

Her passion made her message so much more engaging, and you instantly felt a connection and an understanding of what Francesca was saying.

We should all learn something from Francesca’s time on Question Time – not only from what she said, but how she made a forgotten problem now a big topical issue – from being personal and passionate.

Well done Francesca….

We are always so grateful for all the lovely heartfelt feedback we get from clients we work with.

Our 1 day How To Make it as a TV Presenter training programme was such a great day, where we got to work with a huge range of aspiring TV presenters.

Every client gave us a five star review and this is what they had to say about us:

“You were so kind and patient at bringing out the best in people. It’s such a skill.  Thanks so much.”

“Thanks guys.  You are excellent.  You took the time to understand our individual requirements and it was such a friendly and professional atmosphere.”

“I really loved it and know it will help me be proactive to make this my career.  Money can be wasted so easily on many lessons/coaching/courses and honestly you get the most information, help and insight for what you’d ever expect.”

“Very good course.  I learned a lot.  I’d definitely recommend you.”

“You made me feel so welcome.  It was fabulous.”

“You are hugely experienced and an industry expert.  Your honesty was priceless.  Genuinely extremely helpful and informative.”
