Lots of aspiring TV presenters focus on getting an TV presenter agent to get them work. But you don’t need an presenter agent to get work, and if you are new TV presenter it’s really not expected that you will have one. In TV we all love to find the next new talent. And so we help our presenters bridge the gap between TV Producers like us whose job it is to find new TV presenters and people like yourself who want to get on screen. As part of our TV presenter training we advise all of our clients to be proactive and to go out there and create their own opportunities and work. This is how our industry works – it’s called show ‘business’ for a reason! So the more business minded you can be, and with our insider knowledge we can help you get to where you want to be. You just need to have the talent, good work ethic and a bit of luck (as we all do!) to get there!
Getting in contact with TV channels is a great way to getting work. We were once told at ITV that Judge Rinder got his presenter job after sending in what was simply a very cheeky email. When you contact them everything needs to be on brand, and you need to contact the right people in the right department. So if you are a features TV presenter for example you need to be contacting the people who commission the types of features TV programmes that you are right for. Every TV channel and department work differently, so again it helps to understand how they work. It’s part of commissioners' jobs to be on the look out for new presenting talent, so why not help them out and get in touch like so many of our clients have done!
Do you do presentations at work? Or do you do public speaking? Well read on...
The one thing people often say to us at the start of our session is ‘my speech is X minutes long’ or ‘my presentation is X minutes long’ so this is what I’ve done.
There’s an unhealthy obsession with ‘filling time’. And so speeches or presentations are often written, and delivered as a means of ‘filling time’. They are often drawn out, lack focus and forget the most important thing – what message are you wanting to deliver and how best can this message be presented?
Each public speech or presentation needs to be different. You need to come up with your own formula – surprise the audience with your content rather than it being the usual set formula. Think of your own personality – how would you usually speak to someone, and how best can you make this ‘your own’.
You’ll notice so many people who attend speeches are on their phones, or at lunchtime speak about going to the pub later on, but the speech should be the star attraction of the day. The speech should be the talking point. And your message should be what first gets discussed outside the room.
So much public speaking and presentation coaching is dated, out of touch and lacks the desired impact. So if you want to work with people who can help you deliver something that works, that has impact and that will get people talking give The Presenter Studio a call or email. 0208 677 7143. West-end star Robin Mills has been working with us at The Presenter Studio as he makes the move from stage to screen.
After treading the boards in loads of big shows, including Priscilla Queen of The Desert, Robin now has TV Presenting in his sights.
Having spent 2 days on our Fast Track course Robin was able to put together a brilliant tape to showcase his personality and energy which should help him achieve the next stage in his plan for world domination!
After taking delivery of his taster tape he said “the tape is super slick! I LOVE it!!! Thank you SO much for all your help with it.”
Standing ovations all night long for Robin!
Former Apprentice candidate Sanjay Sood-Smith recently hired The Presenter Studio to help him launch his brand new venture as a TV Presenter.
Businessman Sanjay worked with us to develop his on-screen confidence and branding. So, watch this space for exciting news from the entrepreneur very soon.
We recently had the good fortune of launching a brand new Saturday night BBC 1 TV series called Pitch Battle. It was a singing contest to find the nations best vocal group or choir. And our very own Gareth was the Series Producer of the show - so oversaw the whole creative process from the hiring of the judges to the writing of Mel's script to the Producing of the judges.
Gareth Malone and Kelis were hired as two of the judging panel. This was Gareth Malone's first outing into Saturday night TV, and it was also Kelis' first time as a judge on TV. Both were fantatsic to work with.
And Mel was a Producer's dream. She is such a lovely and friendly presenter - passionate abot what she does and just a delight to work with. No wonder she has done well in her career, and we are sure she will continue to do well in the future.
Another great progression for Rylan Clark, a cleint of The Presenter Studio as he has been doing his own quiz show for ITV daytime.
Quizes are a hard thing to get right for daytime and they can take years to develop. But if you get it right they can run and run so for a presenter to land their own one it can be great news!
Here's what The Sun had to say about Rylan's quiz: https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/2747361/babushka-rylan-clark-neal-the-chase-itv/
It's always nice to get some good news - well this week Leon managed to pick up and NTA award for Gogglebox on Channel 4. What's great is that these awards are all voted for by the public.
Awards are a nice cherry on top of things - but like we always say, the key to success in this business is hard work and getting yourself out there.
So - keep up the good work and we look forward to sharing your news soon.
